League Two Preview: 19 September

As we approach another weekend of action in League Two, here at The Sports Lowdown we’ll bring you a full Preview ahead of all the action. Leyton Orient will look to extend their lead at the top of the table when Wycombe visit Brisbane Road, whilst Newport will be looking for their first win when they travel to Dagenham. Here is your League Two Preview:

Leyton Orient vs Wycombe Wanderers 

League leaders Leyton Orient will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table when Wycombe visit Brisbane Road. The O’s are without a win in two after a heavy defeat at Exeter and last weekend’s draw away Cambridge, but Ian Hendon’s side remain top. As for their opponents Wycombe, they suffered their first defeat last weekend at home to Plymouth, and the Chairboys will be looking for an immediate bounce back.

 

Plymouth Argyle vs Bristol Rovers 

This weekend see’s another installment of the West Country Derby as Plymouth host Bristol Rovers. The Pilgrims, who remain unbeaten in the league, currently sit 2nd in League Two, one point behind Leyton Orient after last weekend’s win at Wycombe. As for Rovers, they’ve failed to win in three games as Darrell Clarke’s side look to push back up the league.

 

Oxford United vs Portsmouth 

Oxford United suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend at Northampton, and they must now turn their attention on the visit of Portsmouth. Pompey are one of only two sides that remain unbeaten so far this season, and they’ll be a stern test for the U’s with both sides looking to achieve promotion from League Two.

 

Morecambe vs Northampton Town 

Morecambe have made an impressive start to the season, and the Shrimps sit 5th after last weekend’s win at Newport. Northampton also recorded a win last time out, their first in four, as the Cobblers look to remount a promotion push, but Morecambe could be tough opposition for Chris Wilder’s side.

Accrington Stanley vs Exeter City 

Exeter occupy a play-off place after last weekend’s win at home to Hartlepool, but the Grecians travel to face an Accrington side that are unbeaten in four. Both sides have made relatively inconsistent starts to the season, and they’ll both be looking to put a little run of form together by the time October arrives.

 

Luton Town vs Mansfield Town 

Two sides that have began the season very differently meet at Kenilworth Road as Luton host Mansfield. The Hatters, who’ve picked up just one win this season, have made a habit of conceding costly late goals, whilst their opponents Mansfield occupy a play-off place after a four game unbeaten run. The Stags will cause problems for Luton this weekend, but surely it’s only a matter of time before John Still’s side start performing?

 

York City vs Carlisle United 

In-form Carlisle travel to York this weekend in search of their fourth straight victory. The Cumbrians have moved to within a play-off place after their recent run, whilst York remain in the bottom half despite losing just once from their last four games.

 

Hartlepool United vs Cambridge United 

Two sides that began the season brightly but have petered out in recent weeks meet at Victoria Park when Hartlepool host Cambridge. The Pools have suffered four successive defeats after winning their opening three games, whilst the U’s haven’t won in four, including back to back home defeats.

AFC Wimbledon vs Notts County 

AFC Wimbledon welcome a Notts County side to Kingsmeadow this weekend with the Magpies winning last time out, their first victory since the opening day. The visitors will be looking to record successive victories, but are up against a Dons side that unbeaten in four, including three 1-1 draws.

 

Barnet vs Stevenage 

Two sides in search of victories meet at the Hive as Barnet welcome Stevenage. The Bees haven’t won in four, including three defeats, whilst the Boro are unbeaten in four, including two wins at the Lamex Stadium.

 

Crawley Town vs Yeovil Town 

Two sides that suffered relegation from League One last season that have made poor starts to life in League Two meet at Broadfield Stadium when Crawley host Yeovil. The Red Devil’s suffered a heavy defeat at Mansfield last weekend, whilst the Glovers, who have only picked up four points this season, have already lost five times this campaign. Both sides will he desperate for a turnaround in fortunes.
