When things go wrong, they invariably go drastically wrong and for Jose Mourinho they have all come crashing down at the same time.
There is little doubt that the catalyst for Chelsea’s poor start to the season has been the negativity surrounding the club since the opening game of the season when after drawing with Swansea City, the ‘Special One’ launched into a blistering attack on his club physio’s Eva Carneiro and Jon Fearn.
Mourinho’s gripe was that they entered the field of play when Chelsea were already down to 10 men thanks to the sending off of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and in the dying embers of their game against the Swan’s it would have seen the player in question who appeared injured, Eden Hazard, having to leave the pitch, which is a Premier League standard procedure.
Mourinho called his physio team ‘naive’ and promptly axed the pair from being on the bench for subsequent games. However there has since been a fierce backlash amongst the media and the public with professionals jumping to the defence of Carneiro and Fearn.
Carneiro has yet to return to the club and it is thought that a civil case could be coming for Chelsea with Mourinho adamant that his decision is the correct one, though sources say insiders at the club are not happy with the outcome and have been a major contributing factor in the Blues poor start to the season which has seen them fall 11 points behind leaders Manchester City and sit just above the relegation zone.
There is little doubt that Chelsea will recover and pull their season together but that along with the poor form of his players and rumours of falling’s out with senior players will not help their cause.
Mourinho is known for his stubbornness and his single minded attitude has often been the source of his success but sometimes you just have to know when things are not going your way and on this point it seems the start of their turnaround could be Jose, swallowing his pride and making an apology.
Chelsea need it and quick if they are to not write off their Premier League chances. Harmony needs to return all across the club and though the sacking of Mourinho is unheard of, if things continue to go sour, a change will surely be down the line.
