Watford 1-0 Swansea

Watford recorded their first home win of the season and scored their first goal for four games when Swansea visited Vicarage Road, Odion Ighalo netting for his new club midway through the second half. The game was played with a very slow tempo, which is surprising with how Swansea have played this season. Heurelho Gomes kept out Bafetimbi Gomis midway through the first period and Troy Deeney saw his effort just wide of the target. Ighalo opened the scoring in the 59th minute when he slotted through the legs of opposing keeper, Gomes. It wasn’t all plain sailing for the hosts though, Valon Behrami was given his marching orders for a stamp on Andre Ayew. Federico Fernandez had the visitor’s last chance, heading wide in the 95th minute.

West Brom 0-0 Southampton

West Brom and Saints played out a goalless draw on Saturday afternoon. West Brom should have been awarded a penalty in the opening exchanges, Matt Targett brought down Callum McManaman but no penalty was given. Very few efforts for either team with Graziano Pelle coming close for the hosts late on in the game.

Leicester City 3-2 Aston Villa

This particular midlands derby would be one to talk about for years, an inspiring come back from the home team saw them score three times in seventeen minutes to assure that the points were the hosts. Goals from Jack Grealish and Carles Gil were not enough to see Villa pick up any points, Da Laet, Jamie Vardy and Nathan Dyer got themselves on the score sheet and won the game for Leicester. The deadlock was broken in the 39th minute when Grealish strayed on the edge of the box ready to pounce for anything loose ball coming his way, and didn’t he deliver. A great curling effort leave Kasper Schmeichel easily beaten. Villa doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Carles Gil’s effort in similar fashion to Grealish’ beat the despairing dive of Schmeichel. 2-0 up and appearining to be cruising all Aston Villa had to do was hold on, keep the ball and the points would be theirs. As the game drew closer Villa started giving the ball away very cheaply, it seemed holding possession was a struggle. The ever so impressive Riyad Mahrez was causing Villa all sorts of trouble, his corner met by Da Laet was Leicester’s first goal of the match. Ten minutes later and the game was all level, Vardy got on the end of a low drilled cross to get himself on the score sheet. In the 89th minute we got the winner, Dyer rising high and bravely to beat Brad Guzan to the ball and head into an empty net. What a comeback, fair play to those boys in blue who worked hard to earn victory.

Sunderland 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur

A Goal from Ryan Mason in the 82nd minute was enough for Tottenham to record their first league win of the season. Jermain Defoe almost opened up the scoring early on when he saw his effort deflect back off the post. Mason was lucky to be on the pitch to score his winner, his follow through on Fabio Borini was a very nasty one, plunging his studs into the Italians ankle. Tottenham got their opener late on, after a flurry of passes, eighteen to be exact found its way to Mason who slotted home for all three points. Spurs should have had another in stoppage time but Costel Pantilimon kept out Harry Kane well.

West Ham 2-0 Newcastle United

Another miserable day at the office for Newcastle as they are still seeking for their first win of the campaign. A double from Payet was enough to see the Hammers with all three points. Newcastle easily seeing more of the ball never really looked like troubling West Ham who have now won back to back games and will take a lot of confidence into next week’s match at Manchester City.
