Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has taken the term ‘super sub’ and expanded it beyond anything unmentionable. The Bavarians were 1-0 down at home to Wolfsburg in last night’s Bundesliga encounter, when half time substitute Lewdanowski not only scored the fastest hattrick in the Bundesliga history, but netted five goals within just nine second half minutes.
The Bundesliga Champions were struggling against high flyers Wolfsburg, trailing 1-0 at the break, but Bayern boss Pep Guardiola made the call to bring the Polish striker on in place of Thiago.
And what a call it turned out to be. Lewandowski equalised on the night just six minutes into the second half before giving the hosts the lead immediately from the restart. The striker then completed his hattrick, the fastest in the Bundesliga since Michael Tonnies scored three in five minutes for MSV Duisburg against Karlsruher in August 1991, in a mere three minutes and 22 seconds.
But it didn’t stop there as Lewandowski added a fourth in the 56th minute before firing home his and Bayern’s fifth with a sweet volley on the edge of the area just nine minutes after his opener and fifteen minutes after he entered the field.
Lewandowski, who is no stranger to scoring goals in quick succession after also netting a hattrick for Poland in under four minutes in a Euro 2016 qualifier against Georgia a few months back, has now recorded the fastest five goal haul in world football’s history.
