Wayne Rooney will miss Manchester United’s return to the Champions League group stages after being ruled out with a hamstring injury for the game against PSV Eindhoven.
The England striker missed Saturday’s win over Liverpool after returning from international duty last week and injuring himself on the first day of training back at United’s Carrington training ground complex.
Rooney became England’s all time leading goalscorer surpassing former United and England legend Bobby Charlton to net his 50th goal for England as they cemented their 100% record in European qualification.
The Red Devils still had too much quality in their win over Brendan Rodgers side but have included highly rated youngster James Wilson in their squad for the trip to Holland.
Memphis Depay is set to return to his former club for the game and will look to lead the line in Rooney’s absence.
