Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will require surgery on a hairline fracture of his left leg, resulting in him being sidelined for three months.
The 23 year old, who was expected to return to training this week after the international break, broke his fibula in August earlier this year, but the club have stated that his injury has worsened after admitting he needs a plate in his leg.
“Jack’s scans show that the healing process is not progressing as well as expected,” a club statement read. “He is likely to be out for approximately three months.”
Wilshere, who also underwent two operations last season before missing five months after suffering an ankle injury, only returned in time for the Gunners FA Cup triumph against Aston Villa at Wembley, before featuring for England in the nation’s June internationals, of which he scored twice in the Three Lions 3-2 victory over Slovenia.
But the upcoming operation doesn’t signal the end of Wilshere’s woes, having been involved with problems as early as 2011 when the midfielder sustained a stress fracture, ruling him out for 15 months.
But the positive news for Gunners fans is the time frame they have to work with in regards to his return, and his return to training once the operation is complete will be greeted with cheers from the Arsenal faithful.
