Chesterfield will be looking to bounce back against Gillingham later this afternoon, when they return to League action following a disappointing evening in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday.
Dean Saunders made five changes to the side that beat Crewe last weekend but it failed to work as the Spireites crashed out of the competition, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Rochdale.
After his side failed to make an impact in the first half at the Spotland stadium, Saunders vented that it was the “worst 45 minutes of football” he had ever been involved in.
Chesterfield boss is expected to make changes today with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Chris Herd among those likely to earn recalls.
Defender Ian Evatt was also left out on Tuesday evening after he broke his hand against the Alex. It remains to be seen whether he will be fit to return.
Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh also made five changes midweek for his side’s JPT clash.
The Gills also put in a poor performance but managed to overcome Luton 2-1.
The likes of Josh Wright, Bradley Dack, Rory Donnelly and John Egan are expected to return to the starting line-up at the Proact this afternoon.
Gills skipper Doug Loft will be checked before the game after being rested midweek due to an Achilles problem.
Defender Adedejj Oshiliaja will remain out of the side travelling to Chesterfield as he continues to nurse a knee injury.
The Gills currently sit at fourth in League One and have been in excellent form at the start of this season.
Edinburgh’s side will go into the game with great confidence after scoring 22 goals in 11 games. This makes them the division’s top scorers.
In contrast the Spireites head into the visit in questionable form – with just one win in their last seven outings.
With Saunders increasingly under pressure from the Chesterfield fans, he will be hoping to regain their faith today, as he looks to secure only his second win at the Proact since their opening day success over Barnsley.
