As I am sure you have heard, Jurgen Klopp is the new king of the Kop at Anfield. But what exactly will he bring to Liverpool Football Club?
Klopp has a wealth of experience at building clubs up from down periods. He began his managerial stint at Mainz 05, a club he’d had a playing career with from 1989 to 2001 as a one club man. Following retirement he took on a managerial role with the club and remained there for seven more years; achieving their first Bundesliga appearance and leading them to qualification to the then UEFA cup.
His Dortmund career saw him recharge the batteries of a team that finished 13th in their previous season, eventually leading them to the Bundesliga back to back in 2010 and 2011. He also took his Dortmund team to a historic Champions League final, only to be beaten by arch rivals Bayern Munich. Bayern have had the edge in recent seasons, but when you compare the transfer outlays of each team it’s easy to see why, money talks in football.
Liverpool’s current plight is of similar repute to Klopp’s previous undertakings. His ability to lift teams from disappointing periods and transition them to success stories should excite Liverpool fans.
It’s not just his team building ability that should electrify Liverpool fans, but his playing style that he is likely to bring to Merseyside.
