New Liverpool manager Jurgan Klopp has been dealt a double injury blow with the loss of both defender Joe Gomez and striker Danny Ings to long term knee injuries.
Young England under-21 left back Gomez, signed in the summer from Charlton Athletic, was injured in the Under-21 win over Kazakhstan and has been ruled out with a cruciate knee ligament injury for up to nine months.
The 18 year old defender signed by former manager Brendan Rodgers during the summer had begun to establish himself in the side and it is a bitter blow to newly appointed German boss Klopp who is looking to re-establish the fortunes of the Anfield club.
Danny Ings has also been ruled out of the rest of the season after suffering the same injury in the first training session under Klopp, just days after coming on as a sub to win his first England cap.
Ings, a summer signing from Burnley had just began to find his feet at his new club and had high hopes of making the Euro 2016 squad next summer in France.
With the transfer window still months away, the former Borussia Dortmund coach will be eyeing transfer targets to stamp his own authority on the club but the loss of two bright prospects for the rest of the season will be a bitter pill to swallow in his first week at the club.
