Another weekend of football in League Two takes place this Saturday and Sunday, and Wycombe will be looking to regain top spot when they travel to Bristol Rovers with league leaders Plymouth in action on Sunday with a trip to Notts County, whilst Leyton Orient Portsmouth and Oxford will be hoping to keep the pressure at the top when they face Crawley, Cambridge and AFC Wimbledon respectively. Here is your League Two Preview:
Saturday 10 October
Bristol Rovers vs Wycombe Wanderers
Wycombe head to Bristol this Saturday with the hopes of retaining top spot in League Two. After suffering a defeat last time out against Northampton, Gareth Ainsworth’s Chairboys could be unsure ahead of this trip, having failed to win on the road in three. The opposition Bristol Rovers have won their last two games in the league, but have lost their last three games at the Memorial Stadium.
Crawley Town vs Leyton Orient
Leyton Orient face another side that suffered relegation from League One last season when Ian Hendon’s side travel to Crawley. The O’s recorded their first win in six last weekend having gone throughout September without victory, but they still haven’t won on the road in three. That said, Crawley are in awful form at the moment. Having won just once in their last seven games and failure to win in five games at the Broadfield Stadium, Mark Yates’s side sit just above the drop.
Cambridge United vs Portsmouth
Having failed to win in their last two home games, Portsmouth will be hoping their impressive away form will continue when Paul Cook’s side visit Cambridge. Pompey are unbeaten in five on the road, whilst the U’s, who came from two goals down to earn a point at York last weekend, won their last game at the Abbey Stadium.
Oxford United vs AFC Wimbledon
Oxford have had a good week on the road after picking up six points from wins at York and Accrington respectively, and this weekend they welcome AFC Wimbledon to the Kassam Stadium. The U’s are unbeaten in four, and haven’t lost in five at the Kassam Stadium, whilst the Dons have relied on their home form for their mid-table position, having won just once on the road this season.
Mansfield Town vs Newport County
Mansfield completed a remarkable comeback last weekend at Dagenham, and this Saturday the Stags welcome the league’s bottom club Newport. The Stags are unbeaten in three in the league, and are unbeaten at Field Mill all season, whilst Newport, under new management in John Sheridan, will be looking for their first win in three and move off the bottom of the table.
Barnet vs Accrington Stanley
Accrington’s eight game unbeaten run came to an abrupt end last weekend after a home defeat to Oxford, and John Coleman’s side will be looking to bounce back when they visit Barnet. Stanley are unbeaten in four on the road, whilst the Bees, who’ve lost all six games on the road this season, are unbeaten in four at the Hive.
Carlisle United vs Morecambe
Carlisle welcome Morecambe to Brunton Park with the Cumbrians having won their last two games in the league. Keith Curle’s side picked up away wins at Leyton Orient and Stevenage respectively, but lost their last home game to bottom club Newport. As for their opponents Morecambe, they’ll be relieved they have an away game this weekend, as the Shrimps have suffered three successive defeats at the Globe Arena, and they’re currently unbeaten in four on the road.
Northampton Town vs Hartlepool United
Northampton picked up a credible win at Wycombe last weekend, and the Cobblers will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to six when Hartlepool visit Sixfields. Chris Wilder’s side have slowly crept up the league after an inconsistent start to the season, whilst the Pools too have failed to find a rhythm, having gone unbeaten in their opening three games before s five game losing streak saw Ronnie Moore’s side drop down the table. Having suffered successive defeats again in recent weeks, the Pools will be looking to put a stop to that immediately.
Luton Town vs York City
Luton have turned their season around after a disappointing start to the campaign. John Still’s side have won their last four games, winning five from their last six, and welcome a York side to Kenilworth Road that have failed to win in five. The Minstermen threw away a two goal lead last weekend, something the Hatters were found guilty of doing in the early part of this season.
Yeovil Town vs Dagenham and Redbridge
Two sides at the wrong end of the table meet at Huish Park where Yeovil host Dagenham. The Glovers are without a win in three despite earning a credible point at Fratton Park last time out, but the Daggers, who have failed to win in five, have suffered successive defeats on the road, and threw away a two goal advantage to lose against Mansfield last weekend.
Sunday 11 October
Notts County vs Plymouth Argyle
Plymouth head into the weekend on top, but could have dropped down the table by the time their game at Notts County kicks off. Derek Adams Pilgrims are unbeaten in five, and will be looking to consolidate top spot against a Magpies side that have won their last three games in succession at Meadow Lane.
Exeter City vs Stevenage
Boyed on by their win at Portsmouth and a point at Newport, Exeter welcome Stevenage to St James Park. The Grecians have been relatively inconsistent in the early stages of the season, but wins against Leyton Orient and Pompey have shown their credentials, whilst Teddy Sheringham’s Stevenage have suffered four straight defeats and haven’t won in five. Worse still, the Boro are yet to win on the road.
