Liverpool have sacked manager Brendan Rodgers with immediate effect with the 1-1 draw at Everton the final straw for the Liverpool hierarchy.
Speculation has been mountaing for weeks over Rodgers future with reported interest by Liverpool in both Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgan Klopp. Sunday’s disappointing draw at Goodison Park brings the curtain down on a reign that started with much promise before ending in a damp squib.
Rodgers had been quick to praise his side in the wake of the draw with Everton but the Anfield board has brought the curtain down on his reign with the side’s poor performance, where they were outplayed by their local rivals for much of the game.
Despite taking the lead through Danny Ings, a defensive error, which has been a constant theme amongst Liverpool teams as of late, from Emre Can allowed Romelu Lukaku to blast Everton level. From there it was Everton that looked the more likely to secure victory.
With both Klopp and Ancelotti rumoured to be on the Liverpool hitlist it remains to be seen who the club plump for but whoever takes over the seat often dubbed a poisoned chalice, they will have arguably one of the worst squads in history at the club and will have a difficult task in returning the club to their past glories.
