Manchester United vs Manchester City
A bitter inner city rivalry sees the two Manchester clubs locking horns on Sunday afternoon at the theatre of dreams, Old Trafford.
Ahead of what promises to be a feisty encounter where 3rd meets 1st in the Premier League, the sports lowdown compares the teams seasons so far across five categories.
- Domestic Performance
Both Manchester clubs have had good results in the infancy of the 2015 premier league season. Manchester City hold top spot two points clear of their nearest challengers and also have the best goal scoring record in the league. Performances have coincided with their league position, at times sweeping aside teams with consummate ease; a 5-1 and 6-1 demolition of Bournemouth and Newcastle as an example. Although it hasn’t been plain sailing for them as a shock 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur threatened to ripple their early season form.
United have shown inconsistency early on but have developed a habit of getting good results. Disappointing results such as the defeat to Arsenal 3-0 have been sprinkled over by performances such as the 3-0 victory at Goodison Park against Everton last weekend. Whilst Old Trafford is becoming a fortress this season, securing four wins out of five when playing in front of the Old Trafford crowd.
VERDICT- It has to be Manchester City on this one. They are top of the league and at times playing scintillating football. Whilst United are getting results, the performances at times are leaving a lot to be desired.
