As the 2015 European Tour draws towards its conclusion, many golf fans will begin to look forward to a Ryder Cup year in 2016. The Sports Lowdown looks at a potential European line-up for the clash at Hazeltine.
The Red Hot Certainties
Rory Mcilroy: Providing the former world number one avoids any friendly football matches you would expect him to be at the forefront of the European effort to retain the Ryder Cup. After a relatively quiet season by Mcilroy’s standards, the 25 year old from Holywood will hope to return to the sports summit in 2016.
Justin Rose: The Mr Consistent of the European contingent, throughout the2015 season. Rose fell agonisingly short of the sublime Jordan Spieth at Augusta and also registered high finishes in the Open Championship and the US PGA. The 2011 U.S Open champion is one of the best ball strikers in the business and he will look to replicate his superb form from the 2014 Ryder Cup.
Henrik Stenson: Partnered Justin Rose at Gleneagles and was brilliant throughout the week. A solid yet un-spectacular year in 2015 means the Swede and his cool, calm temperament is once again set to be part of the European team.
Sergio Garcia: A very strong Ryder Cup record, fuelled by his passion for the love of the team competition, Garcia will once again be a pivotal member of Team Europe. Possibly the best player never to have won a major, the current world number 11 will seek to put this right in the 2016 season and push on to the Ryder Cup.
