The first game of the weekend in the Aviva Premiership saw Northampton put in a strong defensive performance to beat Gloucester 15-3. The win was Northampton’s second of the season and sees them move above their opponents in sixth place in the table.
Newcastle earned their first points of the season with a 15-15 draw against Sale. Danny Cipriani scored all of Sale’s points and will hope his good start to the season will catch new England coach Eddie Jones’ eye. Exeter beat Harlequins 26-25 in a game which saw both sides having to compete against the weather as well as each other. Quins missed a late penalty which would have seen them win the game and are now down to fourth after their second defeat of the season.
Table toppers Saracens enjoyed an emphatic 48-18 win over newly promoted Worcester. The win makes it five wins from five for the pre-season favourites. The result will disappoint Worcester, although they will be satisfied by their solid start to the season which sees them on ten points from five games. London Irish continued their dismal start to the season with a defeat to Wasps. The 33-15 victory sees Wasps positioned just outside the play-off places.
In the final game of the weekend, Leicester beat Bath 21-11. Leicester have now remained unbeaten at home in the league for over a year and the win keeps them in tact with the leaders.
