Khan Closes in on Manny Fight

Amir Khan is hopeful a deal can be agreed to fight Manny Pacquiao.

28-year-old Khan had fought only once in 2015, when he Chris Algieri in New York back in May to retain his WBS Silver Welterweight belt.

Khan had hoped the victory would lead to a showdown with Floyd Mayweather, but the undefeated American chose not to face Khan and recently retired, seemingly ending any hopes Khan had of facing him.

Khan is now turning his attentions to the man Mayweather beat in his penultimate fight. However, while Pacquiao is still a great boxer, he is past his best and the fight will not have the same appeal to it that it would have done if it had been held a few years ago.

Pacquiao is now 36 and has lost three of his last six fights. Unlike Mayweather, Pacquiao has not announced his retirements but there were doubts whether he would box again after losing ‘The Fight of the Century.’

Since Khan lost back-to-back fights in 2012 his career has stalled. A victory against Pacquiao could see him reignite his career, but a defeat against the ageing legend could end it. Khan must now decide if he should continue to rebuild his career with smaller fight or risk it all against the Filipino.
