The groups for the ATP World Tour Finals have been announced, with Andy Murray joining Spanish opponents Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer, as well as the reigning French Open champion Stan Wawrinka to complete the line-up for Group Ilie Nastase.
The Brit will be hoping for a better display at this year’s tournament compared to 2014, where his disappointing campaign was ended with an overwhelming defeat at the hands of Roger Federer.
Against his projected opponents, Murray enters the group with wins over Nadal and Ferrer this year, but he has not faced Stan Wawrinka since the US Open in 2013, where the Swiss player emerged victorious in straight sets.
In the other group, defending champion Novak Djokovic will continue his intriguing rivalry against Roger Federer, with the world number one having defeated his illustrious opponent in four of their six meetings this year. Last year, both players were set to clash for the title but Federer’s unfortunate withdrawal due to injury saw Djokovic automatically clinch the London title.
Kei Nishikori and Tomas Berdych also feature in Group Stan Smith alongside Djokovic and Federer, as Nishikori will be encouraged by his debut at the tournament last year where he pushed Djokovic to three sets in the semi-finals. In addition, Berdych will be looking to finish a solid 2015 season on a high and the Czech has proved that on his day he is a tough opponent for the top players, as his most recent match against Novak Djokovic in Paris saw the Serbian need two tie-breaks to overcome the former Wimbledon finalist.
