It was Tyson Fury who came out on top in the much anticipated heavyweight line up against Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf last night.
27-year-old Fury from Manchester managed to pull-off what many people had written off and that was to beat Klitschko and keep in undefeated record intact. Klitschko on the other hand was a huge favourite and the fact he had dominated the heavyweight division for almost a decade made him the clear winner for many people before the fight had even started.
Klitschko, 39, started the fight in a very reserved manner and took a somewhat ‘overly cautious’ approach. It was evident early on that Fury was becoming more of task to handle than first thought. The frustration was clear for the Ukrainian and Fury was taking full advantage of the situation by making sure he landed as many shots as he could. By the time the fight entered the ninth round, it was becoming more apparent that this could be a night to forget for the Klitschko camp. It was evidently clear the 39-year-old was looking fatigued and even though both fighters gave it their all in the final round, neither could land the blow to knock there opponent down.
Fury won the bout on points via UA with the judges scoring 115-112, 116-112 and 116-111.
The win now means that Fury holds all four heavyweight titles (WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO).
Klitschko’s contract for the fight does include a rematch clause although it is unclear whether he will decide to activate it. Furthermore, if the fight did go ahead, no one knows whether it would take place in Germany on England.
However, fighters such as David Haye have already expressed their opinions on the rematch with the former world champion tweeting, ‘Klit won’t exercise the rematch clause he insisted on. Klit is now completely finished. Out with the old, in with the new!’
So, who could Tyson Fury’s next opponent be? Well, to be honest, theres quite a few of them. Deontay Wilder will be the fight which many would want to see especially as the American has never lost and has won 34 of his 35 fights through knock-out. Anthony Joshua is another shout but with a possible rematch against Klitschko possibly on the horizon, only time will tell who the next challenger will be.
