West Indies off-spin bowler Sunil Narine has been suspended from bowling in all forms of international cricket after it became apparent that his bowling action was illegal.
The 27-year-old from Trinidad is currently the number one ranked bowler in both One-Day Internationals and Twenty20 formats.
Narine was reported earlier this month following his sides ODI series against Sri Lanka. This series also marked his return to cricket in more than a year following the same scenario in last years Champions League Twenty20 tournament.
An independent assessment found that in all variations of his deliveries, Narine was bending his elbow beyond the 15-degree limit. As a result of this the International Cricket Council have suspended him immediately and released a statement saying:
“Narine’s international suspension will also be recognised and enforced by all national cricket federations within domestic cricket events played in their own jurisdiction.”
The Council also added that Narine would be eligible to play again after re-applying once he had changed his bowling action. He is still eligible to play county cricket in his hometown of the West Indies should the West Indies Cricket Board allow to do so.
Narine withdrew himself from the West Indies squad earlier this year for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand to work on his technique.
