In a round of high scoring games, the most surprising result of the weekend came when London Irish recorded their first win of the season with a dramatic 25-23 over Northampton. Following the victory, Irish have moved off the bottom of the Premiership. They have been replaced at the bottom of the table by Newcastle. The Falcons have failed to win a game all season and a 22-10 defeat at the hands of Leicester compounded their misery. A full match report of the game can be found here.
Exeter continued their impressive start to the season with a 33-17 victory over Sale. While Exeter find themselves second in the table, Sale’s form may be starting to concern their fans as they sit in ninth position. Saracens maintained their 100% start to the season with a 26-16 win over London Wasps. England star Owen Farrell impressed for Saracens, scoring 21 points in the match.
Bath narrowly overcame Worcester with a 21-14 win. Newly promoted Worcester enjoyed a positive start to the season, but they now find themselves in tenth. The win for Bath sees them rise to seventh and they may yet harbour play-off ambitions. Harlequins and Gloucester played out the most exciting match of the weekend, which resulted in a 39-39 draw. Gloucester left 17-15 at half-time but Harlequins fought back in a thrilling second half to earn a draw. The result sees both teams stay in the top half of the league.
Next week’s big game sees top of the league Saracens face off against third placed Leicester. Newcastle will be looking for their first win of the season against Bath while Exeter take on Northampton, who will be keen to put this week’s disappointing result behind them.
