Chris Eubank Jr made further progress in his quest to follow in his father’s footsteps following an impressive victory over Gary O’Sullivan. There was no love lost between the two boxers and several insults were exchanged in the build up to fight. Despite O’Sullivan’s taunts, Eubank kept his composure to beat the Irishman to make it 21 wins from 22 fights.
Eubank started the fight well and peppered O’Sullivan in the early rounds, although O’Sullivan came back into the fight in the third round of the bout. However, Eubank retook control of the fight as it progressed. With O’Sullivan showing no signs of getting back into the fight, his team threw in the towel in the seventh round.
Following his victory, Eubank is now in a strong position to challenge for world titles. The middleweight may be given his chance in 2016, with Gennady Golovkin being mentioned as a possible opponent. However, the Kazakhstan fighter would represent a drastic step up in quality, and Golovkin has enjoyed success over British fighters in the past.
Eubank will be keen to add his name to the list of British Boxing Champions. At present, eleven different British boxers currently hold World Championship belts across all the divisions. The most recent new champion is Tyson Fury, who became heavy-weight champion last month.
