Former England and Manchester United defender Gary Neville has been named as the new Valencia manager until the end of the season.
The 40-year-old will officially take charge of the La Liga side on Sunday. Despite his new role as manager, he will still continue with his duties in the England coaching set up.
Gary’s brother Phil, will stay on at Valencia for the coaching staff after joining in the summer as assistant manager.
Both the Neville brothers co-own non-league side Salford City with Peter Lim, Valencia’s Singaporean owner, also having a stake in the club.
The move will see Gary Neville leave his role as a pundit for Sky Sports with immediate effect. He will attend a news conference on Thursday with club president Layhoon Chan.
Neville on being appointed as manager: “I am absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity with Valencia.”
“Valencia are a huge football club of immense standing – and I know from my time as a player the passion and dedication of the Valencia fans.”
Next Wednesday’s home match against Lyon in the Champions League will Neville’s first in charge and he will be hoping he can get off to a positive start.
