South African paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been found guilty of murder after his original manslaughter verdict was overturned in a South African appeals court earlier this morning.
The athlete, who was found guilty of culpable homicide in October 2014, shot dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines Day in 2013 after shooting through a looked toilet door four times, later claiming that he thought she was an intruder.
At present, Pistorius is under house arrest after serving just one of his five year sentence in prison. The athlete will now return to court to be re-sentanced for murder.
But it was earlier reported, incorrectly, that the court declared the manslaughter verdict would remain, but South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the decision made by the lower court.
