Leicester City have signed highly-rated youngster Daniel Amartey from FC Copenhagen on a four-year deal rumoured to be worth £5-6 million.
The versatile Ghanaian has joined the Foxes to bolster the squad’s depth; he is capable of playing in both defence and midfield.
This is Claudio Ranieri’s second signing of the January window after the acquisition of Demarai Gray earlier in the month.
21-year-old Amartey has made six appearances for his national team and has featured in a total of 63 matches for Danish side Copenhagen since 2014.
A fee of £5 million is considered a bargain for a player with great potential; this could be another shrewd move from Leicester after the revelation of N’Golo Kante in the summer.
Amartey possesses the pace which will be very useful in a Leicester side known for its counter-attacking football, alongside composure on the ball and a good work rate.
He may not be available for the game against Stoke City on Saturday but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he makes his home debut in the match against Liverpool next month.
Leicester will be fairly content with their transfer business throughout this month, though Ranieri has expressed his interest in signing a striker before the window closes.
This is after the Foxes let Andrej Kramaric go on loan to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga for the rest of the season, leaving only Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaki and Leonardo Ulloa as the attacking options.
An important stint of the campaign approaches for Leicester with consecutive games against Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal; season-defining games for the Foxes.
Amartey will expectedly be actively involved in those games, either as a potential starter or as a substitute.
