So it’s that time of the year again, where all clubs begin to get linked to all sorts of players with the summer transfer window approaching. For Arsenal fans, this is possibly one of the most painful times to support the club. They are almost guaranteed to be linked to the likes of Benzema, but will most likely end up with Yaya Sanogo returning from his loan spell. However, could this upcoming transfer window be different? With the toxic atmosphere being created by the unhappiness of many Arsenal fans, Arsene Wenger may be forced to change his ways and spend big.
The first player Arsenal have been heavily linked with is Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka. After Arsene Wenger confirmed Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky would all be leaving the club, it would make sense for the Frenchman to strengthen his central midfield.
What would Xhaka offer Arsenal?
The Swiss international could well be the perfect fit for Arsene Wenger’s side. He has been labelled as the “next Bastian Schweinsteiger” due to his impressive range of passing and his quality on the ball; characteristics that are much needed to play under Arsene Wenger. He would also add steel and fight to the Arsenal team, which is something that has clearly been lacking in recent years. His all action style of play would certainly suit the English game, and could possibly be the man who could finally replace Vieira as Arsenal’s midfield destroyer.
On top of his footballing ability, Xhaka is quite clearly a natural born leader. At the age of 23, Xhaka has been trusted with the responsibility of captaining Borussia Monchengladbach, and could offer Arsenal much needed leadership qualities.
If Arsenal were to get this transfer over the line, this could be the first step in the right direction, and could see Arsene Wenger gain the trust of the dissatisfied Arsenal fans. Either way, it looks like it could be a busy summer.
