Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Andros Townsend for £13 million, making the Englishman their first addition of the summer.
As was believed, the deal comes as a result of Dwight Gayle’s transfer in the opposite direction, who has also signed for Newcastle United earlier this morning.
The former Tottenham Hotspur player said: “I’m extremely delighted. I had chats with the manager and chairman before I signed and I’m pleased to a part of Crystal Palace’s future. By the sounds of things it’s going to be a bright one and I can’t wait to get started.”
Chairman Steve Parish also added, “It’s fantastic that we’ve managed to get a player of Andros’ quality into the Club. He has played in the Premier League for a number of years and represented England on many occasions and yet he’s still only 24-years-old.”
Crystal Palace now becomes the 24-year old’s third club in the space of a few months, having switched from Spurs to Newcastle United – where he scored 4 times in 13 appearances – and now back to London with the Eagles. The England international will now be hoping to settle down at Selhurst Park after a tough 2015/16, so as to boost his hopes of an England recall.
