Geraint Thomas will compete in Wednesday’s time trial due to withdrawals after a messy road race on Saturday.
As a result of the withdrawals, Thomas will join Tour de France Champion, Chris Froome, in the time trial. Both athletes hoping to medal after a tricky road race.
Thomas had called off his holidays in hope to be added to the time trial.
The 30-year-old was part of Team Sky in this years Tour de France, helping aid fellow Brit Chris Froome, to win his third Tour title.
The road race on Saturday saw many accidents on the final downhill descent. One of those victim to the bumpy roads was Geraint Thomas, who was on the road to a medal.
Fortunately, his crash was not harmful and he was back on his bike the day after.
Furthermore, the descent of the road race saw more controversy after the women race due to a disastrous high-speed crash for leader Annemiek Van Vleuten saw her sent to intensive care.
The Dutch rider came out with three small fractures in the back and some cuts and bruises.
