The Brazilian men’s football side have progressed to the quarter finals after a comfortable 4-0 victory over Denmark.
Gabriel Barbosa put Brazil ahead, before new Manchester City signing Gabriel Jesus doubled the advantage.
Luan added a third, capping off a fine team move, before Barbosa’s deflected effort sealed the win, meaning Brazil finish Group A as winners.
Brazil will face Colombia in the quarter finals after they finishes second in Group B behind Nigeria, whilst Denmark still go through in second place after South Africa could only draw 1-1 with Iraq.
The hosts, who boast players including Barcelona star man Neymar, have come under criticism following their goalless draws against South Africa and Iraq respectively, but the five time World Cup winners responded magnificently against the Danes.
But it was a bad night for fellow South American sides Argentina and Mexico, who were knocked out of the competition.
Argentina finished third in Group D after they could only draw 1-1 with Honduras, whilst Mexico, who won Gold in London 2012, were beaten 1-0 by South Korea, finishing third behind Germany and group winners, South Korea.
Germany, who finished second in Group C behind South Korea, progressed to the quarter finals after a 1-0 win over Fiji as the four time World Cup winners search for their first Olympic Gold in football.
Freiburg forward Nils Petersen hit five goals, Schalke midfielder Max Meyler grabbed a hat-trick and Arsenal’s Serge Gnabry scored twice as Germany finished second in Group C to set up a last-eight match with Euro 2016 winners Portugal after they topped Group D with seven points.
Portugal ended their three games with a 1-1 draw against Algeria, but wins against Argentina and Algeria saw them progress.
Colombia, Brazils quarter final opponents, finished second in Group B after a 2-0 victory over group winners Nigeria, meaning Japan, who beat Sweden 1-0, finished third and failed to progress.
