Great Britain’s Jazz Carlin took Silver in the Women’s 400m Freestyle, with the Brit finishing behind record breaking American, Katie Ledecky.

Day 2 saw a good night for Team GB in the pool. Moments after Adam Peaty claimed Gold and broke the World Record in the 100m Breaststroke, Britain’s Jazz Carlin finished in second to grab GB’s second medal of the games.

There was no doubt heading into the finals who would win the Gold. The USA’s Katie Ledecky has had no competition within the field, therefore leaving the main battle the battle for Silver.

Ledecky took Gold in 3:56.46 seconds, five seconds ahead of Carlin.

25-year-old Jazz Carlin held off American Leah Smith to take second in the final, giving the Welsh swimmer her first Olympic medal.

It has been a hard fought medal for Carlin; the Brit missed out on her home games in 2012 due to glandular fever and as a result, missed the selection.

After the race, the Silver medalist spoke to the BBC: “I can’t believe it. I’m on the edge of tears.”

The Brit will compete again in the 800m Freestyle later on in the week. This event the stronger of the two for the swimmer. The Commonwealth games saw Carlin win Gold in the 800m Freestyle event.
