Another weekend of football in League One comes to a close, and as usual, The Sports Lowdown brings your your full roundup. Here is your League One Review:
Charlton Athletic 1-1 Bolton Wanderers
Bolton kept their unbeaten run in tact but lost their 100% record to life in League One as they drew with Charlton.
Both sides had first half chances; Charlton’s Jason Pearce headed wide, before Trotters defender David Wheater saw his effort cleared off the line.
But early in the second half, Gary Madine gave the visitors the lead after some good play from Liam Trotter on the wing.
But with Phil Parkinson, who was making his return to the Valley after his dismissal from the club in 2011, looking like his side would earn another win, Ademola Lookman earned Charlton a point with a twenty yard effort in stoppage time.
And Russell Slade’s side could have won it at the death, but Brandon Hanlan’s header hit the side netting.
Bradford City 1-1 Oldham Athletic
Bradford saw their three game winning run halted as Oldham shared the spoils at Valley Parade.
And it was the visitors that took the lead inside five minutes. Marc Klok delivered a free kick, and defender Peter Clarke headed home the opener.
After conceding, the Bantams dominated the rest of the half, but failed to find a way past Connor Ripley, who denied Mark Marshall, whilst Timothee Dieng and Josh Cullen both had shots deflected for corners.
Oldham held their lead until half-time, but the hosts deservedly equalised after 57 minutes when Ousmane Fane conceded a penalty and Billy Clarke scored from the spot.
Bradford continued to dominate, but failed to find a winner as Oldham’s defence held firm.
Port Vale 3-1 Scunthorpe United
There were four goals and a sending off at Vale Park as Port Vale overcame in form Scunthorpe.
The hosts, who have a 100% home record so far this season, took the lead ten minutes before the break when Anton Forrester curled past Luke Daniels, but the Iron levelled in stoppage time through Josh Morris’s free kick.
But Alex Jones restored the Valiants lead shortly after the break, volleying in Jerome Thomas’ deep cross, before Jordan Clarke was dismissed for the visitors ten minutes later after picking up his second yellow. Jones then added his second five minutes before the final whistle to condemn Scunthorpe to their first defeat of the season.
Chesterfield 1-3 Millwall
A Steve Morison brace saw Millwall take all three points at in form Chesterfield.
Both sides began positively, and either side could have taken the lead inside two minutes.
But the Lions took the lead after thirteen minutes when Shane Ferguson opened the scoring, before Morison fired home a sharp finish, before adding a third before the break; an instinctive 30 yard lob over goalkeeper Ryan Fulton.
Chesterfield, who were unbeaten at home heading into this game, reduced the deficit through Sam Hird, but the Spireites couldn’t find a way back into the game.
Shrewsbury Town 2-3 Gillingham
Gillingham came from two goals down to earn all three points in a five goal thriller at the New Meadow.
The Shrews raced into the lead, and were two up after half an hour thanks to a brace from Louis Dodds. First, he curled an effort in from twenty yards, before adding his and the hosts second with another long range effort.
Salop could easily have been four goals up by the break, but Gillingham goalkeeper Jonathan Bond denied Ivan Toney and blocked from Dodds.
And those misses proved costly for Micky Mellon’s side. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas headed in a Bradley Dack cross to reduce the deficit, before he added his second and the equaliser with a terrific thirty yard strike.
Shrews substitute AJ Leitch-Smith should have won it for the hosts in stoppage time, but Bond denied him, and again it proved costly as Dack’s corner found its way to defender Max Ehmer who smashed home the winner for Justin Edinburgh’s side.
Milton Keynes Dons 0-2 Peterborough United
Peterborough bounced back from last week’s defeat at Oxford with a win on the road at MK Dons.
The Posh took the lead within two minutes; Andrew Hughes latched on to Marcus Maddison’s free kick to give the visitors the early initiative.
Karl Robinson’s side came close through Daniel Powell, but Mark Tyler denied the winger with a decent save.
Despite a strong start to the second half from the Dons, Grant McCann’s side doubled their advantage as Michael Bostwick’s header from a Maddison free kick earned the Posh all three points.
Southend United 0-2 Fleetwood Town
Fleetwood left Essex with all three points as the Cod Army eased past Southend at Roots Hall.
Fleetwood, who were yet to beat the Shrimpers in six attempts, broke the deadlock inside twenty minutes, when Chris Long drilled in an effort from 25 yards.
Eggert Jonsson’s header from a corner was tipped away off the line by Shrimpers defender Jason Demetriou before Nathan Pond headed another off target for the visitors.
After the break, Town striker Devante Cole was denied twice; first firing over from twenty yards, before seeing an effort saved by Southend goalkeeper Mark Oakley.
Ashley Hunter added a second with little over ten minutes remaining to give Uwe Rosler’s side all three points.
Swindon Town p-p Bristol Rovers
Referee Oliver Langford was forced to call off Swindon’s home game with Bristol Rovers due to adverse weather conditions.
The pitch was deemed to be unplayable in the 60th minute, with the game goalless, after the pitch became severely waterlogged.
Walsall 3-3 Bury
Walsall saw a three goal half time lead slip as Bury produced a terrific second half comeback to earn a point at Bank’s Stadium.
The Saddlers were ahead after just six minutes when Kieron Morris drilled home from ten yards, before Erhun Oztumer capitalised on some poor defending to double the hosts lead from 25 yards.
It was three before the break, after 32 minutes to be precise, when Simeon Jackson poked home an Andreas Makris cross to give the hosts, what they thought, complete control.
It could yet have been more before the break, but Jackson was denied twice by the Shakers goalkeeper.
Undeterred by their half time disadvantage, Bury looked to bounce back, and score twice in the first five minutes of the second half. Leon Barnett netted within two minutes of the restart, before James Vaughan scored the Shakers second on 49 minutes.
Danny Mayor smashed home the equaliser midway through the second half to complete the comeback, and they could have won it but Vaughan’s half volley flashed over.
Coventry City 1-1 Northampton Town
Two sides without a victory this season in League One shared the spoils as Northampton earned their fifth successive draw.
Harry Beautyman gave the Cobblers the lead after thirty minutes, pouncing on the rebound after Matty Taylor’s shot was blocked.
But Coventry, who are still yet to win in the league this season, levelled in the second half through Marcus Tudgay.
Substitute Jodi Jones, who assisted the equaliser, could have won it for Tony Mowbray’s side, but his volley was saved by Cobblers keeper Adam Smith.
Sheffield United 2-1 Oxford United
Sheffield United recorded their first win of the season as they came from behind to beat Oxford United.
The U’s, who recorded their first League One win last time out against Peterborough, took the lead after fifteen minutes after Liam Sercombe saw his long range effort only parried by goalkeeper Simon Moore, and striker Kane Hemmings slotted in the rebound.
The Blades, managed by former Oxford manager Chris Wilder, could have levelled but Matt Done saw his effort saved by Simon Eastwood.
After the break, U’s skipper John Lundstram saw his effort parried by Moore, before the Blades netted the equaliser through Billy Sharpe.
And the former Premier League side took the lead with under twenty minutes remaining when James Wilson headed home from a free kick.
The visitors were denied a late penalty appeal when former Oxford captain Jake Wright, making his debut, appeared to foul in the box, but no decision was made.
Rochdale 1-1 AFC Wimbledon
Rochdale and AFC Wimbledon sit in the bottom two as they shared the spoils at Spotland.
The Dons, who are in their first season in the third tier of English football, took the lead after twelve minutes through Andy Barcham’s header, before Dale pushed for an equaliser, but Jamie Allen hit the bar and Ryan Clarke twice denied Calvin Andrew.
The win looked set for Neal Ardley’s side when Dale saw Callum Camps dismissed for a second yellow, but a Clarke own goal from an Allen corner earned Rochdale a point.
