Great Britain’s Liam Heath and Jon Schofield claimed the silver medal in the 200m canoe sprint, beating Lithuania’s Aurimas Lankas and Edvinas Ramanauskas to second.
Coming into the final, the GB pair were one of the favourites for gold after producing the fastest qualifying time. The London 2012 bronze medallists produced a dominant and powerful performance in the semi-final winning by 31.899 seconds, with Germany’s Ronald Rauhe and Tom Liebscher, 5th in the final, further adrift in second.
In a very tense and tight final Liam Heath and Jon Schofield finished behind Spain’s Saul Craviotto. While ahead of Lithuania by 0.3 seconds managing to upgrade on their bronze meal they won at London 2012 Olympics.
“It is so satisfying,” Schofield told BBC Sport.
“It’s so fast and furious, you just put your head down and go for it. We did give it a bit of a lunge. You see those white blocks coming up. You just go for the blocks and hit it as hard as you can,” Heath added.
