US gymnast, Simone Biles, has won her second gold medal of Rio 2016 in the all-around individual event with a score of 62.198.
American Aly Raisman and Russian Aliya Mustafina, collected Silver and Bronze respectively.
The 19-year-old is on a quest to be the first gymnast to win five medals in one games; she is already on track to do so after winning gold in the team event.
Biles has won ten gold medals at world championships since joining the senior team in 2013. Her fine form was seen during the all-around team event, and once again in the individual event.
She started off her quest for gold with a strong performance on vault, where she posted the highest score of all athletes competing.
In fact, the only apparatus where the American did not score highest out of everyone was on the uneven bars. This apparatus is undoubtedly Biles’ weakest, but after getting it out of the way she went onto stronger pieces. Beam and floor.
The Balance Beam is an event Simone Biles hopes to get another gold medal in. After her performance in the all-around final it seems like the American is on her way to do so.
Her floor routine is filled with power and strength, and another event that the world champion hopes to grab gold in. After scoring a 15.933 in the all-around finals, Simone is on strong form to do so.
The Gold medalist spoke after winning her second gold of the games: “I’m very excited and relieved, I’ve finally done it. You never know the feeling until it hits you.”
For British athlete, Ellie Downie, small mistakes cost her a higher position. In her first Olympics, the 17-year-old finished 13th out of 24 athletes.
“It’s mixed emotions knowing if I had gone clean I had a chance of a medal, which shows I’m right up there. That’s a big positive to take out of these Games.” spoke Downie.
