USA had a spectacular performance in Rio to claim gold in the Artistic Gymnastics team event, while a tough fight for GB saw them finish fifth.
The US team has been on fine form; it’s been a tough job for any team to try and catch the Americans. Simone Biles led the team to victory, their overall score 184.897. Silver medalists Russia finished eight points behind the USA, and China claimed bronze.
This is the USA’s fifth consecutive world title in this event.
Simone Biles has expectations high for this Olympics, in a hope to win five gold medals. That means she has to win each event she is competing in. If she succeeds she will become the first gymnast to win five medals in one games.
Team GB hoped to grab their first team medal in 1928, however finished fifth with 174. 362 points.
Despite a few falls on apparatus for Team GB, the squad still continued to give it their all. All three competing on vault giving great scores, however it was still not enough to grab a medal.
“This is one of the strongest teams we have ever put out, we could not have done more and nobody should be disappointed.” spoke Becky Downie
Although, it is not over for the GB women. Amy Tinkler will compete in the floor final and Ellie Downie will compete in the all-around individual final.
