West Ham United have made their eighth summer signing as Slaven Bilic has brought in 22-year-old left back Arthur Masuaku.
The former France under-19 player, who arrives at the Olympic Stadium from Greek champions Olympiacos for an undisclosed fee, won back-to-back domestic titles, making more than 100 appearances, including 12 in the Champions League.
“For me, the Premier League is the biggest league in the world. When I was 18, my target was to come here, so now I am here, I have to prove myself to the fans and to the team so I can play for this big Club.”, Masuaku told the West Ham website.
“Now, to be able to play with players like Dimitri Payet, I was thinking on the way here, it’s going to be crazy! I can’t wait to play with him and also all the rest of the team.”
The left back began his career at Valenciennes before joining Olympiacos in 2014 – after interest from a host of top European clubs. Masuaku’s European debut was a memorable one, as he scored in a 3-2 win in the Champions League over the previous year’s runners-up Atletico Madrid in September 2014.
He then achieved a domestic double in his first season as Olympiacos won the Superleague by 12 points, while Skoda Xanthi were beaten 3-1 in the Greek Cup final.
Last season, the full-back featured against Arsenal and Bayern Munich in the group stage of the Champions League. and domestically, he played 24 times as Olympiacos ran away with the Superleague title, winning it by 20 points and losing just one of their 30 league matches.
