At half time it looked as though it would be yet another disappointing European night for Arsenal. The Gunners were outplayed in Paris against Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain for the majority of the match, but fought back late on to nick a draw.

Arsene Wenger’s side got off to the worst start possible, by conceding within the first minute. Edinson Cavani gave the hosts the lead, and at this point it looked as though it could be a painfully long night for the North Londoners.

Arsenal were outclassed in every area of the pitch, and were second best to every ball. This raised some criticism over the team selection. £30 million man Granit Xhaka was benched once again, whilst Alexis Sanchez was used as a lone striker. The tactics and the team selection were clearly an issue due to such a lacklustre performance. However, you must give credit to Arsenal for their resilient display in the dying embers of the match. The substitution of Olivier Giroud, and the change of position for Alexis Sanchez made Arsenal far more dangerous, although Giroud received a second yellow after clashing with Marco Verratti.

Taking a point away from home, thanks to a Sanchez goal, in what was arguably the toughest game of the group, as well as playing woefully, is certainly a good result. This leaves the Gunners in a strong position to finish top of the group. As long as there are no repeats of previous European mess ups.

As for PSG, they will feel hugely disappointed, as well as feeling regretful for their missed opportunities. Particularly Edinson Cavani, who forced David Ospina to make multiple world class saves. Nonetheless, the French champions will still feel confident that they can top the group.

In regards to Arsenal’s current form, there are still some concerns over the teams performance. It has become clear that Arsene Wenger is still unsure on what is his strongest 11, hence the constant changes to the team. One thing that is certain, is that Olivier Giroud must start against Hull. Despite losing his head, the Frenchman gave the Gunners an outlet and allowed Alexis Sanchez to operate in his favoured wide position. He may not be the world class striker Arsenal fans desire, but he’s certainly the best they have available.
