Evening Session

Terry Jenkins and Michael Smith were made to fight hard in their last 32 games with Jamie Lewis and Jonny Clayton respectively before both securing 6-4 wins to move on.

The first seed to crash out of the event was Vincent van der Voort who lost to rising Austrian Rowby-John Rodriguez 6-4 with the fast Dutchman misfiring despite taking an early lead as impressive youngster hitting a number of ton-plus finishes.

‘Snakebite’ Peter Wright demolished ‘Superman’ Matt Clark 6-0 before German Max Hopp shocked 8th seed Mervyn King 6-3.

Jamie Caven got the dreaded worst draw of the day as he faced Stephen Bunting who knocked the 15th seed out 6-3 to advance to the last 16 of the tournament.

The final two ties of the evening saw Michael van Gerwen have to work had for his 6-5 victory over the Republic of Ireland’s William O’Connor before Daryl Gurney knocked out Australian 5th seed Simon Whitlock 6-5.
