Southgate picks deadly Premier League trio for Under 21’s

England Under 21 boss Gareth Southgate has finally selected his 23 man squad, who will travel to this summers Euro Finals in the Czech Republic.

The current Under 21 side arrived this morning at St. George’s Park to start their preparations for the upcoming tournament.

The current side, which is a blend of both Premiership and Championship talent, possesses players which have performed previously at this level and at senior England level, including defenders Calum Chambers, John Stones and Carl Jenkinson.

Other players that have performed at the highest level for England include the formidable pair of Saido Berahino and Harry Kane, who are joined by Burnley star Danny Ings. The trio have all been deadly for their Premiership sides this season, scoring a contributed 46 top flight goals; Kane (21), Berahino (14) and Ings (11).

Recently promoted Norwich winger Nathan Redmond is also selected and is set to make his 23rd appearance for the Under 21’s. Whereas their is a debut for Chelsea midfield Reuben Loftus-Cheek, who has also represented the England Under 19 side and is highly regarded as one of the best emerging talents at Stamford Bridge.

The squad is now set to train at St. George’s Park for the remaining two weeks before hosting the Belarus Under 21 team at a friendly scheduled for Thursday June 11th at Barnsley’s Oakwell stadium.

The squad will then travel to their base in Olomouc on Sunday 14th before facing their first challenge in Euro Group B, where they will face Portugal on Thursday June 18th.

With a side that boasts such experience of the international and domestic side of football, England should be confident going into this tournament under the leadership of manager Southgate, who has a very talented pool of players to pick from in the tournament.
