FRANCE 0 COLOMBIA 2

France completely dominated the first 45 minutes against Colombia but they failed to create many goal-scoring chances at the Moncton Stadium.

Philippe Bergeroo’s side were punished for their failures in the final third when Colombia took the lead against the run of play after Lady Andrade was through on goal from a lofted ball over the French defence. Andrade showed enough composure to place the ball passed Sarah Bouhaddi.

Andrade’s goal gave Las Cafeteras confidence and the momentum swung if favour of the Colombian’s.

The second half the Colombian’s came out the stronger and they nearly extended their lead on several occasions.

They eventually did in injury time when Midfielder Catalina Usme’s quick thinking on the counter-attack was rewarded with a second goal, and France became more and more desperate as the clock ticked.

Camille Abily, Claire Lavogez, Eugenie Le Sommer, Jessica Houara and Amandine Henry all had great chances to reduce the deficit for France, but Colombia stood firm and pull off a World Cup shock.
