COSTA RICA 0 BRAZIL 1

With Brazil already through to the last 16, they rested several players including the impressive Marta.

But Vadao’s side still created a host of first half chances after a Gabriela goal was disallowed for offside, Darlene forcing a fine save from Diaz and an unmarked Rosana, who just lacked composure at the crucial moment.

Costa Rica’s attack’s were seldom and keeper Dinnia Diaz continued to keep the Brazilian’s at bay. That soon changed as Fernandes ran clear and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Diaz with just 6 minutes of the game remaining.

Brazil will now be up against Australia in Moncton on Saturday 21 June and Costa Rica are eliminated at the first hurdle.

Diaz, Saenz, C. Sanchez, Herrera, Cruz ©, Cedeno, Rodriguez, Barrantes (Villalobos 72), Granados (Venegas 57), Alvarado (F. Sanchez 86), Acosta.

KOREA REP. 2 SPAIN 1

A second half revival helped the Korean’s to overcome Spain and appear in the knock-out stages of the Women’s World Cup for the first time.

But it was Ignacio Quereda’s Spain who looked the more likely to progress as they dominated the first half and duly took the lead after iconic midfielder Veronica Boquette scored her first World Cup goal with a neat side-footed finish following a superb run and pass by Marta Corredera.

However, two second half goals for Korea turned not only the game but the group on its head as Cho Soyun’s header and a cross come shot by Kim Sooyun found the net leaving a surprised Ainhoa Tirapu in Spain’s goal.

Korea Rep will play on but as for the European’s Spain, it’s Adios to Canada 2015.
