Is Pogba on his way to Chelsea?

Therefore, it looks like the most likely deal will be made up of only money and that means a very hefty sum. Some papers report a fee of around £70 million has been offered but speculation around the exact fee continues. Pogba could be a sensation at Chelsea. At only the age of 22, the defensive midfielder has lots of time to improve. Standing by the relatively experienced Serbian and in front of the very experienced CB, John Terry, Pogba has a lot to learn from them to complete his footballing character.

With him, Chelsea will be able to employ a more dynamic team. They could start by pairing up both Matic and Pogba, ensuring a very solid defensive midfield. This allows Fabregas to be pushed forward to his more favoured attacking role, especially useful for when Oscar cannot be used, which does tend to happen a lot (especially near the end of the season). A note to add is that Fabregas also has a tendency to move forward and leave Matic alone which can leave a gapping hole in the defence. This move will ensure a solution to this problem, a very strong spine to the team and allow Fabregas to do his more desired attacking duties.

Personally, I believe this is exactly what Chelsea need. A stronger defence but also a player that can also move the ball forward to attack, provide real threat, especially when pressing hard on the opposing team. Pogba provides Mourinho with real versatility to move players around. To be able to tailor selections, positions and formation to each upcoming team. This will ensure they are able to expose opponents weaknesses and help Chelsea achieve the results they want and need. Also, this will importantly reduce the chance of predictability. An issue many Champions face the following season.

This versatility means that teams wont be able to second guess tac-tics and also  ensure teams can’t defend well against them, allowing players such as Hazard, Fabregas and Costa to expose defences. This will be especially important in big games in Europe, against teams in the top flight, such as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. After all, the next big step for the men in blue is to crown themselves Champions of Europe once again.

All in all, Pogba is not the only player needed to turn Chelsea’s fortune around, but he is definitely a step, a big one at that, in the right direction. Despite previous claims that he was not for sale, Mourinho does express that “there is a chance” (express.co.uk) to sign the French wonder kid. So fingers crossed for those Chelsea fans. If this does go through, Pogba can look to retain his form from Juventus, prove himself in the premier league and continue to improve under the watchful eye of Mourinho. The player could prove vital to Chelsea’s future. And although he will certainly cost Chelsea big. The west London side will look to reap great rewards out of him.

With the transfer window soon drawing to a close. It’s either now or never for Mourinho.
