Arsenal vs Olympiakos: Match Preview

This Champions League game is a must win game for Arsene Wenger’s side after losing the first game of the group stages to Dinamo Zagreb.

Arsene Wenger has always prided himself on his ability to get past the group stages of the Champions League year after year. However for the number of years he and Arsenal have successful in reaching the last 16, should they have been successful in winning the competition by now?

This has always been the criticism of Wenger, brilliant in the Premier League, but not quite good enough to win the Champions League.

This current squad is arguably the best squad he has had since the team that reach the Champions League final in 2006 loss to Barcelona, so should they be considered as a threat to the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona? Judging by their performance against Dinamo Zagreb, no, but this is an excellent chance for the Gunners to make a statement and put in a convincing performance against a beatable Olympiakos team.

I would expect to see a much stronger side starting this game compared to the team we saw starting in Croatia. Arsenal cannot afford to lose this game going into back to back games against Bayern Munich; two games that Arsenal will very much be the underdogs in and could quite easily lose both if they are not at their best.
