New West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has made his first signing since his arrival at Upton Park, Spain under-21 midfielder Pedro Obiang.
The 23 year old arrives from Serie A club Sampdoria for an undisclosed fee, arriving at Upton Park on a four year deal.
Obiang was in demand, with many top European clubs after the midfielder. He made 34 appearances in Serie A last season, scoring three goals.
In his first interview for the club, the midfielder said: “I’m very happy to have signed,” confirmed Obiang, who successfully passed his medical at Spire Roding Hospital, the Club’s official private hospital. “We have been talking about this for a long time and now I’ve finally got the chance to come here.”
He added: “I’m very excited to play in the Premier League. It’s a style of football that will help me to progress as a player and as a person, so it will be very good.”
Despite being just 23, the box to box midfielder brings some vital experience to the club.
Obiang began his career with some local sides in his hometown of Madrid before signing for Atletico. But he left the club at 16, signing for Sampdoria.
He has gone on to make 128 league appearances for Sampdoria, and has represented the club in the Europa League.
