Sepp Blatter has resigned as President of FIFA amid the corruption scandal that has engulfed the game of football.
A press conference was called this afternoon with no inkling of what was to come, with allegations beginning to centre around FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke and a suspected 10 million pound bribe.
In a statement released just moments ago, Blatter said “My mandate does not appear to be supported by everyone”
With mounting pressure, the resignation of 79 year old Blatter comes as US authorities revealed more details of the mounting case against various members of the executive committee including Jeffrey Webb amid allegations dating back to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Blatter has called an extraordinary general congress as soon as possible to elect a new president with Blatter to step down once a successor has been found.
