Coventry Bees have regained top spot in the Elite League after a 45-45 draw with Belle Vue.
The win moves the Bees three points above Poole, but the Pirates have three matches in hand.
In an entertaining meeting, both sides had four point leads at one point, but went into heat 15 all square. The Belle Vue Aces almost claimed the win, but captain Chris ‘Bomber’ Harris overtook Matej Zagar in the final heat to end the meeting on a 3-3.
“Obviously we came here for the win so we’re a bit disappointed not to get it, but at least we came away with a draw and got two points,” said Harris.
“It was an up-and-down night for everyone – on Friday it was me and Hans who struggled, and tonight it was others, but we’re there or thereabouts and the results still show the strength in depth we have in the team, and it’s great to be leading it.”
Belle Vue boss Mark Lemon said: “It was definitely a fair result tonight. Coventry have always proved to be an enigma for us around our home track so to finish the night with a draw isn’t something I’m about to complain about.”
The point leaves the Aces two ahead of Swindon Robins who are 5th.
On Monday night, Lakeside hammered Wolves 57-34 to move to within two points of the Midlands club. Mikkel Bech scored 13+1 with reserve Ashley Birks collecting 11+3 on a strong night for the Hammers, whilst not a single Wolves rider scored double.
