Former England midfielder David Platt has returned to the game after over a year away, joining Indian Super League side FC Pune City.

Platt has managed both the England Under 21’s and Nottingham Forest but has not been involved with a side since leaving Manchester City in 2013.

As reported on BBC Sport, Platt said “I didn’t know much about Indian football until the opportunity arose”

Platt continued “The more I researched and the more I heard, I became enthusiastic about the strategy of the ISL and FC Pune. There is an ambitious plan and the strategy appealed to me.”

The former England midfielder played 62 times for England and had an impressive goal scoring rate for the Three Lions, hitting 27 goals in a 7 year England career. He also featured for Aston Villa, Arsenal and spent time in Serie A with Juventus and Sampdoria amongst others.
