England Rugby World Cup hopeful Danny Cipriani has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving in London.
Fly-half Cipriani played a starring role in England’s 73-12 victory over the Barbarian’s at the weekend but his hopes of a call up to the upcoming World Cup have been severely dashed, with the England hierarchy yet to comment.
For head coach Stuart Lancaster, the dream is turning to a nightmare as he potentially loses his third high profile squad member after both Manu Tuilagi and Dylan Hartley were dropped from the squad for disciplinary reasons both on and off the pitch, with Cipriani likely to become the third high profile player to be dropped from the squad.
Cipriani was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning after a collision involving his Mercedes. The Sale number 10 was arrested at the scene and bailed to appear in court at a later date.
The 2015 World Cup was expected to feature Cipriani at his peak after years in international turmoil, including off the pitch distractions such as a high profile relationship with Kelly Brook, threatened to curtail his promising career.
