With the season now over, the rumours and the gossip has started in earnest and The Sports Lowdown takes a look at five big money transfers that could happen this summer.
David De Gea
De Gea’s Manchester United career got off to a shaky start when he first arrived in 2011. However, he has gone on to establish himself as a key player at Old Trafford, making 175 appearances for the club. He has won United’s Player of the Year award for the past two seasons and was nominated for the Premier league’s Player of the Year award this season.
De Gea is being strongly linked with a return to his homeland with Real Madrid, and with just one year on his contract at United remaining, it looks likely that the Red Devils will have to sell him this season to avoid losing him on a free next season. It is though Real will have to pay up to £30 million to secure his services, although they may be able to negotiate a better deal based on the fact that De Gea will soon be out of contract.
