Liverpool have captured their second signing of the summer with out of contract Burnley striker Danny Ings joining on July 1. The Turf Moor side will be entitled to compensation as Ings is under the age of 24.
Ings will this summer be playing at the Under-21 European Championships for Gareth Southgate’s England team but will link up with his new teammates on his return after completing a successful first season in the Premier League despite Burnley’s relegation.
The striker scored 11 goals for the club but was unable to prevent them returning to the Championship next season and he has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the summer and joins James Milner in the north-east as under pressure Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers looks set to do his transfer business early as he plots their return to form for next season.
Rodgers will hope that Ings is the man to replace the goals of former player and now Champions League winner Luis Suarez after last season’s problems in front of goal almost cost the former Swansea boss his jib and will need a good start to the season to fend off any unwanted attention from other available managers.
