Carver, who remained adamant that he’d still be at the club next season, has fully paid the price for a dismal campaign.
Former England and Derby County manager Steve McClaren remains the bookies favourite to replace Carver at St. James Park, but no decision has yet been made.
The club have also sacked first team coach Steve Stone, with managing director Lee Charnley sorts through the club prior to the new managers arrival.
