Manchester United still remain the most successful club in the Premier League era, having won 13 titles since its inception in 1992, as well as being Champions League winners on two occasions.
Many a great player has graced the Old Trafford pitch but The Sports Lowdown offers its view on who the greatest 5 players are since 1992, starting at some of the iconic players to miss out before the list begins at 5 and reaching its greatest ever to pull on the red of Manchester United.
Players Missing Out
There are many great players that just cannot make it into the top 5 best ever Manchester United players and many will disagree with our choice but honourable mentions go to:
David Beckham – One of England’s greatest players but the midfielder just narrowly fails to make his way into the top 5. Had he stayed for the majority of his career, it could have been so different and his impact on the club could have been much more.
Peter Schmeichel – Had one of the biggest impacts on a side in the early days but was already nearing his 30’s when he joined. However his presence in goal and ability to pull off world class saves, were a big part of the Red Devil’s success in the 1990s.
Roy Keane – The enforcer of the side in the 1990s emerged as the leader of the side and his fearsome reputation influenced the club and kept them focused. He probably sullied his image at the club towards the end of his Man Utd days with the falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson but was another whose impact was huge.
Others – Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, David De Gea, Steve Bruce, Edwin Van Der Sar
