The French Olympic Committee have confirmed that they will bid for the Olympics to return to Paris for 2024 after failing in three previous attempts to see the games return to the country.
After losing out to London in 2012 for the Olympics as well as previous attempts in 1992 and 2008, France has committed to bidding for the games, 100 years after it was last held in France.
The 2016 games will be held in the Brazilian city of Rio, with the 2020 games set for Tokyo in Japan and Paris has been of the first to show its hand in the race for 2024 and will likely be a favourite to return the games to the country, particularly on the back of it being 100 years since they last held the games.
The deadline to submit its intentions to run for 2024 is this coming September, with the host set to be chosen in 2017 by the Olympic committee. Paris bid chairman Bernard Lapasset said ” We believe that this bid and our goal to host the 2024 Games will excite, unite and enthuse the people of Paris.”
